Cheltenham yoga classes
Mixed ability yoga class
There is always a broad range of experience in these classes, from complete beginners to those who have been coming for longer, but who prefer the pace and variety here.
Typically in these classes the main āsana (postures) are likely to be easily accessible with alternatives for anyone with limitations. We generally offer variations for those who perhaps have more experience and want to work a little stronger in their āsana and prānāyāma, (meditative breath work).
Improvers yoga class
These classes are for people who are more confident in their practice, so we explore stronger postures, sequences and breathing techniques and take more time to discuss aspects of the āsana or prānāyāma.
Beginners 1 yoga class
Suitable for people with absolutely no previous experience of yoga, who feel that they’d like to take things slowly at first, so as to get to grips with the breathing, āsana and basic prānāyāma, before integrating into the mixed ability yoga classes.
Beginners 2 yoga class
These classes are for students who have attended the ‘beginners 1 yoga classes’ and enjoy the pace of the class but feel that the mixed ability classes aren’t for them at the moment. Here we further develop the āsana and prānāyāma practices.
These classes are also suitable for people who have had a break from yoga so have some knowledge or experience of yoga but feel that they need a little more guidance before attending a mixed ability class.
Gentle yoga class
For people who are perhaps recovering from injury and need to take it slower as they ease themselves back into full fitness, or who are just looking for a class of a gentle, nurturing nature.
Yoga and meditation class
Here we focus upon yoga practices that lead into seated meditation. We also visit alternative kinds of meditative techniques and discuss the philosophical background to the practice.
Yoga and relaxation class
In these classes the yoga takes a gentler direction with the main focus being yoga nidrā (long, guided, deep relaxations). It’s just as well Chantal serves her delicious tea afterwards to draw people back into the real world!
Yoga class for people with M.E./C.F.S.
These classes are specifically geared towards people with M.E./C.F.S. and focus on the more meditative aspects of yoga.
We work with a short āsana practice and end with yoga nidrā, followed by a prānāyāma practice. Chantal has completed training with Fiona Agombar, author of ‘Beat Fatigue with Yoga’ and uses this along with her Viniyoga approach to hatha yoga to run yoga classes suitable for people with fatigue issues.
Lunchtime yoga class
These lunchtime classes have to be shorter than usual given the time of day, and focus more upon āsana and sequences. There is less emphasis given to prānāyāma and only a short relaxation, otherwise there would be some very dozy people drifting back to work!
