Thai yoga massage training

Our regular practitioner diploma training courses take place at Cheltenham
Yoga Studio.

Essentially, an energy body therapy, Thai yoga massage is based upon yogic prāna theory. We influence the channels (sen lines or nādis) through which prāna (our essential energy) flows, in order to clear blockages and maintain the free flow of prāna throughout the energetic body.

The massage is also typified by a choreographed series of yoga-based stretches to work the body and loosen the joints. The massage quite often resembles a kind of dance, with the practitioner in a meditative frame of mind, moving smoothly and rhythmically, whilst working with the recipient's body.

From the practitioner's point of view their positioning, posture and rhythm is crucial to an effective and enjoyable massage.

Although it's closely related to yoga, you don't have to be a yoga teacher or practitioner to learn and practice the art.

This practitioner diploma level course is suitable for

  • Complete beginners who want to learn more about bodywork
  • People who want to practice massage on friends and family
  • Complementary practitioners who want to expand their existing skills base
  • Other health orientated professionals who want to further their knowledge
  • Yoga teachers wanting to complement their skills with a related discipline

The course consists of 72 teaching hours split into 6 weekends (1 weekend per month). Each day is divided into theory, demonstration and practice sessions with the focus very much on hands-on learning. Class numbers are strictly limited.

Whilst students are more than welcome to attend the course for their own development (a certificate of attendance will be issued), those wishing to practice professionally will be required to undertake the following to a satisfactory standard:

  • 30 documented full massage case studies (60 hours in total)
  • An essay of circa 1500 words on a topic related to Thai yoga massage
  • An observed practical examination
  • A short answer written theory test
